Magic Abilities Overview
All major magic abilities in Clean The Library: Assemble, Sort, Insight, Shelf Guide, and Auto-Shelving. Cooldowns, unlock order, and combos.
How Magic Works
Clean The Library features five major magic abilities that accelerate book sorting beyond manual pickup and delivery. Developed by Retro Library and StarMarine with inspiration from Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library, these powers unlock as you return books to correct shelf sections across the two-floor library. Each ability has a cooldown unless you own the Unlimited Magic gamepass, making timing and combo selection core to efficient builds.
Assemble pulls scattered nearby books into a cluster. Sort organizes a pile by color or section affinity. Insight highlights misplaced volumes on partially filled shelves. Shelf Guide points toward correct destinations for held or targeted books. Auto-Shelving places completed rows automatically when conditions align. Together they cover gathering, categorization, quality control, navigation, and final placement—the full sorting pipeline.
Controller players activate abilities via D-Pad directions; PC players use HUD buttons or hotkeys. Read individual ability pages for mechanics, optimal upgrade pairing with keys from the keys hub, and build-specific priorities on the upgrade order page.
Unlock Progression
Abilities unlock sequentially through shelving milestones—not by finding hidden objects like keys. Early runs focus on manual learning until Assemble and Sort come online; mid-game shifts to magic-heavy pile breaks; late-game chains Auto-Shelving during second-floor pushes through sections 2A–2Q.
Head Start gamepass begins runs with accelerated milestone progress so abilities arrive sooner for players who dislike early manual grind. Free players still reach all abilities by completing enough first-floor sections 1A–1N.
No-magic challenge players skip this entire system for the No Magic Needed badge—see no magic build and avoid unlocking or casting major magic.
Basic Combos
Standard combo: Assemble → Sort → manual delivery → Auto-Shelving on arrival. Insight fires between delivery waves to catch misfiles before they compound. Shelf Guide breaks deadlocks on ambiguous spines without burning H hints.
Speed runners chain Sort on cooldown with sprint from Emerald Club key between pile hubs—details in magic upgrade order guide with Arcane Library-inspired video.
Co-op teams assign ability roles: one Sort specialist, one Insight auditor, others manual courier with max carry from Golden Diamond and Azure Star keys.
